No. DineAtlas is 100% offline. All etiquette data for all 12 countries — rules, scenarios, category details — ships inside the app as bundled content. You can use it in airplane mode, in a basement, at a remote mountain lodge. No Wi-Fi or cellular data is ever required, and the app never phones home.

Open the Compare tab (bottom navigation). Tap the Country A picker and choose your first country, then tap Country B. The screen fills with a side-by-side column view — each row shows one etiquette category and the status for each country using the Expected / Optional / Avoid colour system plus the strictness dots, so you can see at a glance exactly where the two cultures differ.

Each rule and each country has a strictness level from 1 to 5, shown as five dots — filled dots indicate the level, empty dots are unfilled. For example, means level 3 out of 5.

Level 1 is a very mild cultural preference; level 5 is a deeply held norm where breaking it would cause serious offence. The country-level strictness is an overall average across all its rules — use it to quickly gauge how formal a dining culture is before you read the individual rules.

Go to Settings (bottom tab, rightmost) and tap Export Notes. The app compiles all your notes — whether you wrote them on a country or on a specific rule — into a plain text file and presents the iOS share sheet. You can save it to Files, email it to yourself, or send it anywhere.

To restore notes on a new device, tap Import Notes in the same Settings screen and paste or select the previously exported text. Notes never sync automatically — exporting and importing is always manual and always under your control.

Version 1 covers 12 countries across five continents: Japan, China, South Korea, India, Thailand (Asia) — France, Italy, Germany, United Kingdom (Europe) — USA, Brazil (Americas) — United Arab Emirates (Middle East).

Each country has 5–7 rules across the 8 etiquette categories, plus region-specific notes for major cities where customs differ within the same country.

Travel Scenarios are pre-curated situational guides found in the Explore tab. Each scenario — Business Dinner, Street Food, Fine Dining, Family Meal, Drinks / Bar Night, and Guest at Home — collects the most relevant etiquette tips and highlights which rule categories matter most for that type of outing. Handy when you know the occasion but aren't sure which country rules to check.

Yes. In the Explore tab, tap any of the 8 category cards — Tipping, Dress Code, Table Manners, Alcohol, Payments, Photos, Noise, or Kids — to see rules from all 12 countries filtered to that topic. Useful when you want to understand tipping norms globally in one view, for instance.
